Griesser with solar shading solutions at the Olympic Village in Paris

Griesser is proud to equip the Olympic Village with two types of external venetian blinds and rolling shutters in a specially created shade of pink.

The athletes' village covers an area of 52 hectares in three municipalities to the north of the capital: Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen and L'Île-Saint-Denis. More than 2,800 units will be occupied by some 10,500 athletes competing from 26 July. Their construction took more than three years and was entrusted to various architectural firms, including the famous Soa, Lambert Lénack, CoBe and KOZ agencies. For French architects KOZ, this was an extraordinary project: ‘Its scale was impressive, as was the number of players involved, including four clients and seven architects, not to mention the huge amount of media hype surrounding the construction’.

The specifications called for a low-emission construction method, using various bio-sourced materials with a reduced footprint, in particular wood and low-carbon or even ultra-low-carbon concrete, manufactured on site. Over 90% of the timber used for the framework was processed in France. Eco-design also includes bioclimatic gardens, green terraces and various roofs equipped with photovoltaic panels. Sustainability was also a key concern in terms of use: once the Olympic Games are over, the village will be converted into housing and commercial areas.

A new colour for Griesser sun protection products

Various sun protection solutions have been installed on different buildings in the Belvedere district, which is home to around a quarter of the athletes during the games. In addition to the Lamisol 70 external venetian blinds - a best-seller with sleek lines and excellent shading properties - we installed Grinotex III external venetian blinds, which are highly appreciated for their resistance to weather and break-ins thanks to their anti-lift system, as well as Tradi PUR rolling shutters, a self-supporting system that is particularly easy and quick to install. Griesser's solar shading solutions provide perfect daylight management, contribute to a pleasant indoor climate and increase the energy efficiency of buildings by saving heating and cooling energy. ‘Griesser's quality products have made a name for themselves. These solar shading solutions have already proved their worth in other projects we've completed,’ explains KOZ architects, justifying their choice.

A total of 265 Lamisol 70 external venetian blinds, 7 Grinotex III and 108 Tradi PUR rolling shutters were used. To create perfect visual harmony, the colours for the solar shading products were matched to the residences. For both the external venetian blinds and the rolling shutters, the architects opted for a metallic pink shade, specially designed for this project.
